Compare like for like
Hourly rates and fixed quotes are not directly comparable. An hourly rate should state the crew size, truck size, travel time policy and minimum hours. A fixed quote should state the volume it is based on and what happens if the volume changes on the day.
Ask every removalist for the same information so you are comparing the same job, not three different jobs.
Ask about transit protection
Carrier liability is limited by law and is not insurance. If you want your goods covered for replacement value, you need a separate transit protection policy. Ask what is excluded, whether self-packed cartons are covered and what the excess is.
Describe access honestly
Stairs, steep driveways, long carries and lift bookings all change the price. A quote based on a wrong access description is a quote that will be revised on moving day. Send photos if you are unsure.
