Removals Insurance Explained

Carrier liability, transit protection, exclusions and valuations.

Liability is not insurance

Carrier liability is a capped amount per consignment or per item and typically only applies where the removalist was negligent. It rarely reflects replacement value.

Transit protection

Transit protection is a separate policy covering accidental damage or total loss. You declare a replacement value for the whole consignment and list high-value items individually.

Common exclusions

Owner-packed cartons, mechanical or electrical failure without external damage, pairs and sets, and items of extraordinary value that were not declared.
